چکیده

Let p∈ [1,∞]. Consider the projection of a uniform random vector from a suitably normalized `p ball in Rn onto an independent random vector from the unit sphere. We show that sequences of such random projections, when suitably normalized, satisfy a large deviation principle (LDP) as the dimension n goes to ∞, which can be viewed as an annealed LDP. We also establish a quenched LDP (conditioned on a fixed sequence of projection directions) and show that for p∈ (1,∞] (but not for p = 1), the corresponding rate function is “universal”, in the sense that it coincides for “almost every” sequence of projection directions. We also analyze some exceptional sequences of directions in the “measure zero” set, including the directions corresponding to the classical Cramér’s theorem, and show that those directions yield LDPs with rate functions that are distinct from the universal rate function of the quenched LDP. Lastly, we identify a variational formula that relates the annealed and quenched LDPs, and analyze the minimizer of this variational formula. These large deviation results complement the central limit theorem for convex sets, specialized to the case of sequences of `p balls.

Quenched, Annealed and Functional Large Deviations for One-Dimensional Random Walk in Random Environment

Suppose that the integers are assigned random variables f! i g (taking values in the unit interval), which serve as an environment. This environment deenes a random walk fX n g (called a RWRE) which, when at i, moves one step to the right with probability ! i , and one step to the left with probability 1 ? ! i. When the f! i g sequence is i.i.d., Greven and den Hollander (1994) proved a large d...

The speed of biased random walk on percolation clusters

We consider biased random walk on supercritical percolation clusters in Z. We show that the random walk is transient and that there are two speed regimes: If the bias is large enough, the random walk has speed zero, while if the bias is small enough, the speed of the random walk is positive.

Large deviations for one-dimensional random walk in a random environment - a survey

Suppose that the integers are assigned i.i.d. random variables f! x g (taking values in the unit interval), which serve as an environment. Deviations of a Random Walk in a Random Scenery with Stretched Exponential Tails

Let (Zn)n∈N0 be a d-dimensional random walk in random scenery, i.e., Zn = ∑n−1 k=0 YSk with (Sk)k∈N0 a random walk in Z d and (Yz)z∈Zd an i.i.d. scenery, independent of the walk. We assume that the random variables Yz have a stretched exponential tail. In particular, they do not possess exponential moments. We identify the speed and the rate of the logarithmic decay of P( 1 nZn > tn) for all se...
